Module 01 / Lesson 02 · Read, apply, check
Assign tools by demonstrated capability and give every output a human decision owner.
A practical starting allocation is Codex for repeatable file workflows, data checks, small internal tools and structured production; Grok for research, working conversations and supported account workflows. These are operating choices, not exclusive product boundaries. Both can overlap, and available tools depend on account access and configuration. Test the actual task in your environment. A tool that produces a plausible explanation has not necessarily edited the spreadsheet, checked the source or completed an external action. Ask for the resulting artifact and inspect it.
Describe input, permitted sources, required output, acceptance criteria and destination. For a coverage report, the input might be an approved URL register; the output is a deduplicated table with dates, publication names and unresolved cases. For an interview brief, the output is a question list linked to evidence gaps. Give each assignment a unique job identifier and version. This lets an editor reconcile contributions from different tools without relying on a long conversation or assuming the latest message contains the final facts.
A skill packages a reusable method; a schedule or routine determines when it runs. Official product documentation explains the available controls, but the agency must define the editorial method. First complete one assignment, correct the result and record what passed. Then save the stable instructions and trial a small repeat. A local task may depend on an awake computer, accessible files and a running app. Check the actual environment and run history rather than promising that every process runs anywhere without supervision.
Humans own the client relationship, interpretation of ambiguous evidence, approved quotations, commitments and release decisions. AI can prepare options and flag exceptions, but a named editor accepts the work. Avoid two bots silently updating the same master document. Give them separate drafts or clear sequential stages, with one authoritative version. Where execution is allowed, define its scope and escalation conditions. Access to an account is not a blank instruction to contact clients, change prices or publish unfinished material.
One job, approved inputs, explicit output and access boundaries.
A separate draft with source IDs, version and unresolved items.
Check evidence, calculations, voice and exceptions.
A named person approves commitments and the final destination.
An illustrative agency prepares a manufacturing client’s monthly insight report. Grok organizes approved interview notes into candidate themes and returns the supporting source identifiers. Codex checks a supplied CSV for duplicate case IDs, calculates descriptive totals and builds a report draft from the agency template. Neither tool is allowed to interpret missing rows as zero or invent a customer quote. The editor reviews the computation against a small hand-checked sample, checks the themes against the interviews and asks the client one focused question about an outlier. The account lead approves the final interpretation. The team saves the working method only after the sample passes, and schedules preparation for the next cycle. The job record distinguishes prepared, reviewed and approved; a failed data import remains visibly blocked.
Another agency assigns the same report to two bots with the instruction to finish it quickly. One uses last month’s spreadsheet while the other uses a new export with a changed definition. Their paragraphs are combined because the writing sounds consistent. The client notices incompatible totals. Running two capable tools did not produce a reliable result because the agency never established one input version, a shared definition or an owner for reconciliation.
Choosing the strongest model does not compensate for missing evidence or unclear responsibility. The same tool may be suitable for research in one account and unsuitable for execution in another because access differs. Maintain a small capability register showing the tasks actually tested, the date, environment and limitations. Update it when workflows or connections change.
Product interfaces and available capabilities change. Use the linked official documentation and verify access in the account you will operate. This course proposes an agency division of work; it does not claim that Codex and Grok have exclusive abilities or that every subscription includes every connection.

Before you move on
Two bots prepare an article from different evidence packs. One pack contains a provisional figure, while the other contains the client’s later correction. Both drafts read well, and the deadline is close. What is the strongest next step before combining their work?
