Module 04 / Lesson 24 · Read, apply, check
Use AI to assist content work while keeping a named human accountable for evidence, usefulness and publication.
AI can help organize supplied notes, propose an outline or identify questions to investigate. Define the intended audience and the limits of the input. Do not treat a fluent draft as a completed research process. The team still needs to decide which claims are supportable and whether the result contributes something useful beyond familiar summaries.
Check quotations, statistics, product features, dates and source references using the actual underlying material. A plausible citation can be nonexistent or fail to support the claim. Keep a record of verified sources and unresolved questions. If the evidence cannot be established, remove or qualify the statement rather than relying on confident wording.
Automation is not automatically disallowed, and human authorship alone does not guarantee quality. The relevant question is whether the content helps people or is produced at scale primarily to manipulate search. A large publishing capacity increases the need for editorial controls because the same error or unsupported template can propagate across many pages.
Name the people who actually created or reviewed the work where readers would expect that information. Explain substantial automation where it helps users understand how the content was produced. Do not invent expert identities, credentials or review histories. A disclosure does not excuse inaccurate material; accountability requires an actual review and correction process.
Defines task and collects verified source material.
Tool helps organize or express ideas; generated claims remain unverified until checked.
Check facts, reasoning, citations, scope and useful contribution.
Approves the final material and assigns maintenance responsibility.
Hypothetical example: a travel equipment retailer uses AI to organize notes from a staff member’s genuine backpack field test. The system proposes headings and summarizes observations, but also adds a waterproof claim that the tester never established. The reviewer removes that claim, checks the product specification and adds the actual weather conditions and duration of use. Original photographs are labelled accurately, and the review states the limits of the test. The staff member approves the final interpretation and remains responsible for corrections. AI helped with organization, while the evidence and judgment came from a real process. The retailer does not manufacture firsthand experience merely because a model can write in the first person.
Another site generates thousands of near-identical city pages with invented local experience and no meaningful review. Adding a sentence saying AI assisted does not make those pages useful or truthful. The appropriate correction is to reconsider the purpose, verify genuine local information and reduce the scope to content the team can responsibly maintain, rather than treating disclosure as a substitute for editorial work.
Misconception: Google either bans all AI writing or rewards any text that sounds human. Correction: evaluate usefulness, accuracy and policy compliance. The production method matters to accountability, but superficial style is not a reliable test of quality.
High-stakes claims require stronger review and suitable expertise. Confidential customer material should not be supplied to an external tool without the appropriate permission and safeguards. A convenient drafting workflow does not remove those responsibilities.
Do this today · 25 minutes
Take a short AI-assisted draft and create a claim-check table. Record the evidence for each factual statement, identify invented experience or unsupported certainty and name the person responsible for the final publication decision.
Use an authorized page or campaign relevant to this lesson, or work entirely from the illustrative sample below. Record proposed changes as drafts until they are approved and implemented.
An AI draft invents a customer quote, claims a product was tested for a year and includes an unverified statistic.
Before: Fluent wording is accepted as proof of factual accuracy.
After: Every material claim is supported, narrowed or removed before publication.

Repeat claim checks when the draft is updated and retain the evidence behind important statements.
Before you move on
A retailer uses AI to organize genuine product-test notes. The draft adds a performance claim not tested by the reviewer and describes an invented month of use. The manager proposes publishing because the text includes an AI disclosure. What is the best next step?
