Make the first screen answer the promise

A visitor should quickly recognize the offer they selected, who it suits and what to do next. Use a concrete heading and relevant information rather than a vague welcome. Keep the main action visible without crowding out essential conditions. For a complex service, clarity may mean explaining the qualification process rather than forcing an immediate purchase.

Put evidence beside the claim

Support important assertions with relevant demonstrations, documented experience, specifications or appropriately presented customer evidence. Place the support where the reader needs it. A testimonial cannot prove every claimed result, and a logo collection without context may say little. Explain limits and requirements so the visitor can decide whether the offer fits before investing effort.

Remove friction without removing judgment

Check speed, readable text, accessible labels, keyboard use and form errors on realistic devices. Ask only for information needed at that stage, while preserving fields that identify essential eligibility. A shorter form can increase submissions yet reduce usefulness. Treat the whole journey, including confirmation and follow-up expectations, as part of the conversion experience.

Measure the action that matters

Define success before choosing a page variant. A completed order, qualified consultation or valid request may matter more than a button click. Verify tracking through the confirmation step and avoid counting repeated reloads as new outcomes. Pair behavioral evidence with customer feedback to understand why a page works, not just whether a number changed.

A landing page that resolves the decision

Heading · identify the offer

Commercial ventilation filters for specified equipment.

Proof · support the claim

Current compatibility table and documented specifications.

Friction · ask what is needed

Model number and essential contact details, with accessible labels and errors.

Action · request a suitable quote

Confirmation explains the response process and realistic next step.

Illustrative page anatomy: inform and qualify the right buyer rather than hiding limitations to inflate submissions.

See it in practice

Hypothetical example: an industrial supplier advertises replacement filters for commercial ventilation systems. Its page receives many clicks but few useful inquiries. A review shows a beautiful product photo, no compatibility information and a long general contact form. The team adds a clear model-compatibility table, explains delivery assumptions and offers a short quotation request with the fields needed to identify the equipment. The confirmation tells buyers what happens next and when to expect a response. Staff label requests that can be fulfilled. The experiment evaluates qualified quotations and eventual sales, while monitoring errors and completion on mobile. An increase in submissions alone would not justify the change if most requests still concern unsupported models or unavailable delivery areas.

Compare the alternative

A page replaces its product details with a large button and hides all limitations until after submission. The form completion rate improves, but staff spend more time explaining that the service is unavailable to many respondents. The apparent conversion win transfers friction to the sales team and frustrates visitors. Useful landing-page optimization makes the right action easier while helping unsuitable customers recognize the mismatch early.

Avoid this misconception

Misconception: a landing page must always be short. Correction: length should follow the decision. A straightforward booking may need little explanation, while a costly or technically complex purchase needs enough evidence and detail to support informed action.

Know the boundary

A page test can be distorted by a changed audience, offer or device mix. Keep the comparison interpretable and monitor downstream quality; a faster page or simpler form does not automatically create incremental profitable customers.

Do this today · 25 minutes

Turn this lesson into a useful action.

Trace one ad-to-page journey on a phone. Record the promise, evidence, eligibility information, action and confirmation. Identify one obstacle, propose a specific change and name the downstream outcome that would validate it.

Before you start

Use an authorized page or campaign relevant to this lesson, or work entirely from the illustrative sample below. Record proposed changes as drafts until they are approved and implemented.

Practise with this scenario

An ad promises a consultation, but the mobile landing page hides eligibility and its form has no clear confirmation.

Your steps

  • Open the ad-to-page journey on a phone and write the promise the visitor expects fulfilled.
  • Find the supporting evidence, eligibility details, action and confirmation.
  • Identify the first specific obstacle and draft a focused correction.
  • Test the revised journey and choose a downstream measure such as qualified consultations rather than button clicks alone.

What better looks like

Before: A click-focused page leaves visitors unsure whether they qualify or submitted successfully.

After: The page explains fit and confirms the requested action.

Your working notes

Notes stay in this browser. Download a copy to keep them.

Verify your work

  • The destination visibly fulfills the acquisition message.
  • Evidence, eligibility and accessible interaction support the decision.
  • Tracking verifies a worthwhile completed action and downstream quality.

Follow up

Check valid submissions and quality after the change, with comparable traffic context.

Before you move on

Make the decision.

An industrial supplier shortens its quotation form and sees submissions rise. Sales staff report that many new requests concern incompatible equipment and cannot become orders. Which next change best improves the landing page for both customers and the business?
