It can’t get much worse than that. Tornados, hurricanes, localized flooding, wild fires and tsunami will continue to happen. There’s proof of large pole shifts and signs of small pole shifts. This doesn’t denote the end of times, in my opinion, but does point toward some of the hardest times we have ever experienced in our lifetime. History speaks for itself yet current events are pointing toward these natural disasters becoming more intense. People need to be aware that things are getting worse on this planet. Reason to fear it, yes. My point is be prepared for any disaster that you or your family could face and there will be less fear and a greater sense of security. That is what Extreme Survival is all about. Ancient history dictates December 21, 2012 is marked for a catastrophic event that will change our lives forever. Some do believe that day marks the beginning of the end of times. I however believe it is the beginning of a series of events that we as a people need and can be prepared for. If we work together as a group to be prepared for 2012 we will also be prepared for bad economic conditions, food and gas shortage, natural disasters and other crazy things that are coming our way. Being prepared will ease the pains others will certainly experience. When we stock pile food, water, fuel, and medical supplies and have solar cookers, solar generators and 12 Volt power systems we will be prepared for off the Grid living.†   Believe me, if we had all the answers we wouldn't be looking for more members. Survival is without borders.†We’ll have a better chance of survival in greater numbers. Your input is always appreciated. Extreme believes that we will need to work as a group to get through the future regardless of what happens on Dec 21, 2012. We believe 2012 is a wake up call that we should have been prepared for all along. Remember Katrina? Our Government couldn’t do it all for those helpless people. It took volunteers and private citizens stepping in and offering food, water, shelter and clothes. Had they been more prepared to take care of themselves I’m positive countless lives could have been saved. Imagine a network of friends all over the world to call on in a time of disaster.†How can it be a bad thing to have help when you are in need?† I am a spiritual man in that I believe God did not tell Noah to sit on that rock and have faith in me and everything will be ok. He told Noah gather your family and a representation of the earth’s creatures two by two and build and ark in the desert to take care of yourself while I watch over you. Noah built. People ask me everyday, “what if you do all this and nothing happens?”Do we honestly have to think about that question? If I go the rest of my life without seeing any type of hell I feel I’m a blessed man. Now you ask yourself do you think its possible for something to happened in our kids or grandkids lifetime? Bad things are happening around the world as I write this and homes are being evacuated due to fire or flood in the world this very minute. I think it’s very possible future events could escalate in our lifetime Click on Picture to give our thanks to the fallen heroes     Extreme Survival members are a group of ordinary people with extraordinary expectations of survival. We are organizing to prepare for the worst possible scenarios while we hope and pray for the best. Many scientists agree there is no question of if a major global disaster is going to happen.  The only question is when and will we be able to survive it. It seems we are approaching a critical timeline with 2012.  Many complicated cycles are ending and renewing in this year.  The suns cycle of solar flare activity is at its highest level in 2012, the Earths elliptic cycle ends (a roughly 26000 year cycle) in 2012. Moon-earth-sun-and the center of our galaxy is all expected to align in 2012. There are many theories of what may or may not happen when this time comes. Some say it will be the beginning of a new ERA of peace. Others say it will cause times of great catastrophe, disastrous weather and more all leading to the end of the world as we know it. Some say few among us will be spared. Extreme Survival plans to be prepared for the worst in the event the doomsayers are correct.   To all people interested in survival, regardless of age.Extreme Survival has a new website that everyone needs to check out. This is:    http://extremesurvivalexplorers.com/index.phpFirst, let me state that Extreme Survival is not a political group and does not advocate violence except in self defense. We need to know what Extreme Survival (ES) is and what it is intended to do.Everyone is aware of the Scout Groups, such as Boy Scouts, scouts, and explorer scouts.   These groups teach kids various shills and crafts and go camping once in a while. They have handbooks showing how to do the various things such as tying knots.  However they are mainly social groups and have organized meetings, etc.  They give merit badges when a particle subject is learned, etc. When a person reached a certain age, they have to options of dropping out or continuing as a scout leader or helper.ES Explorers will also have a handbook, which is now being put together. This book covers survival methods such as survival fire making, lean-tos, food gathering, and other things that a person will need to know in case of a major catastrophe. The ES Explorers are not interested in just teaching kids how to survive, but everyone regardless of age.  This group is composed of kids just old enough to learn to parents, aunts, uncles, friends, grandparents, etc.Yes I mean grandparents.  Survival is not just necessary just for young people but for everyone.  I myself am rapidly approaching 72 And expect to learn everything I am able to learn.  I can take care of myself and survive, but have had no formal survival training and know that I will learn better and easier ways to do things by taking this training. We are planning to have ES Explorer groups in all states and cities who will be in contact with one another and get together for campouts and survival lessons. We too will have merit badges for those old and younger that they will receive with each survival skill they master, but we go a step farther. We also will be giving a certificate of accomplishment to those over 18 as they master the various survival skills. Our meetings will consist of everyone learning the survival skills, regardless of age, with those that know how to use a particular skill teaching others how and in turn being taught by those that have skills they don’t.In case of a catastrophe, everyone will be able to take care of themselves as well as working as a group to assure survival. If you have questions or comments, you can email them to:   This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Our goal is to have everyone capable of taking care of themselves and others if the need arises in the future.   Beware of the ‘Food Bubble’ Experts worry that the world is facing a looming food crisis, one that we are currently not well prepared to deal with. In his new book, World on the Edge: How to Prevent Environmental and Economic Collapse, Earth Policy Institute’s Lester Brown looks at the state of the world’s resources, that the outlook does not look good when it comes to feeding the world’s population. Brown warns that the “food bubble” may be about to burst in both the book and a new piece in Foreign Policy this week, laying out why there is good reason to believe that the new year may be disasterous on this front: But whereas in years past, it’s been weather that has caused a spike in commodities prices, now it’s trends on both sides of the food supply/demand equation that are driving up prices. On the demand side, the culprits are population growth, rising affluence, and the use of grain to fuel cars. On the supply side: soil erosion, aquifer depletion, the loss of cropland to nonfarm uses, the diversion of irrigation water to cities, the plateauing of crop yields in agriculturally advanced countries, and—due to climate change —crop-withering heat waves and melting mountain glaciers and ice sheets. These climate-related trends seem destined to take a far greater toll in the future. Already, there are reasons to be concerned: food riots in Algeria, soaring wheat prices in the United Kingdom, an 18 percent inflation rate on food prices in India, and the Mexican government trying desperately to fend off rising corn prices in order to prevent a recurrence of the so-called “tortilla riots” of 2007, among others. Last week, the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization reported that food prices hit an all-time high in December—higher than even the spike between 2007 and 2008, a rise that caused a global food crisis. There are many reasons for the spike, and unfortunately, two of the major ones aren’t getting better any time soon. The first is population: We gain 219,000 fellow humans every year. Sometime in late 2011, we will number 7 billion as a global population. (See our population special for more.) The rate of population growth has slowed, but we’re much guaranteed to keep expanding. The second reason is equally intractable: Many of the current environmental factors driving constraints on food resources, including heat waves, drought, and severe weather, are only going to get worse as the climate changes. This is on top of the water resource depletion and soil erosion that were already underway. And unlike previous rises in food prices, there is probably no turning back from this one. “We can no longer expect that things will soon return to normal, because in a world with a rapidly changing climate system there is no norm to return to,” writes Brown. (See Tom Philpott and Geoffrey Lean for more on the subject.) The rising food prices serve as a powerful reminder that we humans are inextricably linked to our environment, and when it suffers, we suffer. It’s also a reminder that development and environment issues cannot and should not be treated as separate. As Gawain Kripke, policy director for Oxfam America noted last week, unless we address both the underlying issues of both climate and development, “we will find ourselves perpetually on the knife’s edge of disaster.” Mother Jones   Combating Peak Oil with Wind and Smarter Electric Power We spend a lot of time on this site discussing the risks posed by Peak Oil. It’s important to us that you understand the magnitude of our national/global predicament and take appropriate preparations. But in addition to tracking the gathering stormclouds (of which there are many), our info scouting efforts also look for developments with potential to change the situation positively. In the podcast below, Chris and Willett Kempton explore the potential of wind power to reduce the energy pinch threat posed by depleting fossil fuels. Dr. Kempton is an electrical engineering professor at the University of Delaware and director of the Center for Carbon-Free Power Integration. Turns out, while still early in the game, there’s action going on in wind and electricity-management that offers real promise. Click the play button below to listen to Chris’ interview with Willett Kempton: The interview covers: The importance of electricity storage in making alternative energies viable, as they have fluctuating production (i.e., the wind doesn’t always blow, nor the sun always shine) Current options for increasing our energy output from wind How much of our energy needs could be fulfilled by wind if we pursued it at a Manhattan-project scale (Hint: It’s more than you’d think) Strategies for using electricity from wind (and other sources) to create liquid fuels The promise of ’smart’ technologies to optimize our consumption and conservation efforts Some truly novel ideas come up, such as Willett’s work around using electrical car fleets as a distributed electricity storage system – returning power from their batteries to the grid when the cars are fully charged and not in use. As for Peak Oil, Willett agrees the threat is real: “If the population understood what the scientists understand,” he says, we’d be fast-tracking moon-shot scale alternative energy infrastructure investments immediately. Willett Kempton is Professor, College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and also Director, Center for Carbon-free Power Integration, at the University of Delaware.. He received a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Texas, Austin in 1977. He has done extensive research on social and policy aspects of energy use and energy efficiency. His scholarly articles cover topics such as American citizens’ understanding of global climate change, beliefs and behavior regarding home energy, international comparisons of citizens’ and policymakers’ environmental perspectives, energy efficiency policies, and factors which move citizens to environmental action. He has written one book on theoretical cognitive anthropology, edited three volumes on energy, and most recently coauthored “Environmental Values in American Culture” (1995), a study of Americans’ environmental beliefs and values. Kempton has held research or teaching positions at Princeton University, Michigan State University, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley and Irvine, prior to joining the faculty at the University of Delaware in 1992. chrismartenson.com One Comment on "Combating Peak Oil with Wind and Smarter Electric Power" Kenz300 on Sun, 16th Jan 2011 7:28 am Wind, solar, geothermal, using ocean currents and second generation biofuels are the future. China is making huge investments in wind energy, solar energy and electric vehicles bringing down the unit cost of production and the speed of implementation in China. They have doubled their wind generation capacity in each of the past 4 years and it continues to grow. Yes, they are starting from a small base but it is growing very fast. LCD TV’s a few years ago were very expensive to own, now they are commodities and the cost has come down dramatically. Wind and solar power units also become commodities as their implementation grows world wide. Our economic security and national security will depend on our ability to ramp up clean, safe alternative energy.   Politics by Nathaniel 0 replies.
