In the early days of cellphones, the gadgets were rather used to talk and aside that not much else. Then we started using them to also listen to music and play very simple games. But today we use our mobile devices to browse more often than not. Even when it comes to having a conversation with friends, we can always use messenger apps like Skype and Google hangout. Our mobile devices have turned into internet devices that we take everywhere we go. We browse the net using web browsers. The default browser on Android phones is simply called Android browser.

You probably already know that the browser installed on your device records your browsing history. For one reason or the other you might want to delete that history. Here is how to do it.

Using the default browser

Open the browser and scroll to the very top till you see the icons up there. Look at the right corner, you should see the button for “More options”. Tap on it and a list will drop down. On the drop down list select “Settings”. Under Settings tap on “Privacy & security”. On the list of options that follows, you can choose to “Clear History”. Aside that you can also change some other Settings like the ability for the browser to accept cookies or remember data from a form that you filled. It is up to you to change it appropriately.

Using Chrome

Maybe you don’t really like the default browser and decided to rather install Chrome. This is how to clear the browsing history on chrome.

So open Chrome and again look at the top right corner to see the “More” option. Scroll down on the drop down list that opens and tap on “Settings”. On the page that follows, select “Privacy”. On the next page, scroll down to the bottom and tap on “Clear Browsing Data”.

You will then be presented with a list of data type you want to delete. The browsing history is at the top followed by “Clear the cache”, “Clear cookies, site data” and others. You first have to check the data type that your are trying to remove and then press the “Clear” button at the end of the page.

Understanding the data type

As you browse the net, the browser may take records of different things referred to as data type. Here is an explanation of what they mean

The “Browsing history” represents the links to all the websites you visited.
The “Cache” is the data collected from a page that you visited so that the next time you visit it, it will load much faster.
The “Cookie” is an information saved by the website you visited on your browser so that the next time you visit it, you will be recognized based on the history you have with that site.

Keep in mind that if you want to browse in complete privacy you can choose the “New incognito tab” instead of having to open a normal new tab.
