How to prevent iTunes from launching when you connect your iPhone
All iOS devices, whether an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch are set to automatically launch iTunes any time they are connected to a computer. This is a really good feature but the problem is it is not all the time that we connect our device that we really intend to use iTunes. So it can sometimes be annoying to bump into it when we plug the handset. The good news is you can always turn off the feature. There is a way to disable auto connect within iTunes. Here is how to disable the feature.
You should first connect your iOS device to your computer or Mac machine via USB. Obviously iTunes will launch within some few seconds after that. On the Window that follows up, make sure that the name of the device you just plug is seen and selected. On the right window, also make sure that it is the Summary tab that is selected.
On the Summary tab, scroll down to the “Options” section. You should see a check box for “Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected”. By default it is checked in advance but in this case you want it unchecked. Keep in mind that depending on whether you plugged in an iPad or iPod the wording might be slightly different but it stands for the same thing.
You can then close iTunes. From that point on if you connect your phone, iTunes will not launch automatically. You can comfortably plug your phone when you want to charge the battery. This trick works both on Windows and Mac OS X.
