How to transfer photos and videos from iPad, iPhone, iPod to Mac
If you have any portable Apple product, you will probably want to transfer photos from it to your PC. There are many ways you can do that and that is exactly what you are going to learn on this article. Keep in mind that on your iOS device the photos inside can be categorize into 2 groups:
a) Those taken with the in-built camera or saved from the net
b) Those transferred to it through iTunes.
The 3 most popular software used to transfer photos from the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch to the computer are iPhoto, Image Capture and Photo Stream. Any picture or video saved from applications like Safari can be transferred through those apps.
To move images to your Mac computer using iPhoto, first connect your device either through USB or bluetooth. By default iPhoto is supposed to launch automatically and take you into the import section. All videos and pictures saved on the handset will show there. You can then choose to import all or select the ones that you prefer and move them to your PC.
In case iPhoto does not launch automatically, just navigate to the Applications folder and start it. Next time if you want it to launch immediately you plug in your device, you will have to select iPhoto as the default image importing tool. In case Image Capture is currently the default tool, when it launches, you will see on the left lower side an option to change it to iPhoto.
This is another application program designed to enable user to import pictures from digital cameras or scanners to the PC whenever they are connected. If you happen to have that software, it will pop up as soon as you connect your handset. Before clicking on the import button make sure to choose the folder where you want your files to be transferred. The button for that is at the lower section, around the center.
Photo Stream is an innovative software that Apple added to all its products. And it can be used by anybody with an iCloud account. With that, any picture taken on your portable device is immediately synced with all your other Apple products so that you can access them on your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and PC all at the same time.
Assuming that you have an iCloud account, you have to turn it on by going to Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream. On the Mac, navigate to System Preferences > iCloud and check the box for that.
Remember, the pictures and videos that can be transferred with the softwares mentioned above are those that were taken with the in-built camera on the iOS device. For photos that were copied from another friend’s device you will have to use a 3rd party software to copy them using your Wi-Fi. To name a few of those you can try Simple Share, Photo Transfer App and Simple Photo & Video. Just search for those through Google.
