Nokia Lumia 620, the cheapest windows phone 8 that can compete with Android
The good old time when Nokia phones were dominating the market are all gone and the company is doing its best to come back on top. The Nokia Lumia 620 is one of its latest attempt to bring back consumers with a pocket size phone that is affordable. It may not be made of the latest high end Windows phone hardware but still offers a polished mobile computing experience that average users can rely on without having to use all their savings to pay for it.
The Lumia 620 is now considered the Nokia’s most affordable windows phone 8 by far. There are other Nokia phones much cheaper than that but they don’t offer a windows 8 experience but rather windows phone 7. With this new phone Nokia hopes to conquer markets in Africa, Asia pacific, Canada, Europe and the Middle East. In the U.K. The phone goes for an average price of ₤150 ($235) which is a price comparable to the cost of an average android phone. One should take note that Android phones that cost below ₤100 usually come with sluggish hardware with low quality resolution screen. So comparatively the Lumia is doing relatively better with a hardware that is not necessarily the best but at the same time offers an experience that the user won’t complain about.
The phone comes with a Dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon S4 accompanied with a 512 MB of RAM. It runs Windows Phone 8 and has the cloud storage integrated to it offering 7 GB of Skydrive storage aside the 8 GB internal storage the phone comes with. You can also choose to voluntarily expand the storage to 64 GB with a Micro SD card. You also get a 5 MP camera and a 1300 mAh battery.
What is inside the phone?
This phone is made for average Joes and gets easily into one’s pocket. The cases can easily be changed and you have the option to change the colour of the interface to match the case. The integrated camera comes with an LED flashlight and also has front facing lense for video calls. That said the photo resolution is average to poor. You can still rely on it to quickly snap pics to share on Facebook.
The battery seems to be one of the strength of this phone. According to Nokia it can be used for 9.9 hours 3G talk time. You can also use it to listen to your music for about 61 hours.
The current most favorite OS are the Google Android and Apple’s iOS. Nokia Lumia 620 comes with Windows phone 8 which is more like a third, least favorite OS. The good news is this time, the price is relatively cheap and that might attract people who do not want to break the bank to have a mid-range phone. With this OS installed the user will benefit from the free Skydrive cloud storage that goes with it but also the free Nokia music streaming service.
Window Phone 8 probably falls short on the side of the apps. It currently offers only 150 000+ apps in comparison to 700 000+ apps that can be found on Android. Other popular apps like Instagram, Dropbox, Vine and SnapChat can’t be found on the Nokia Lumia 620. Another downside is, apps tend to be more expensive on Windows phone and that may turn off the average consumer who is trying to save money by going for mid-range phone.
At the end of the day, the Nokia Lumia can still be seen as an impressive phone for its price. It can be reliable for those who just want something basic to keep in touch with friends and family.
