It is now possible for you to experiment with virtual furniture pieces and decorate your room based on your own imagination. Thanks to Decolabs you can just take a picture of your own room and arrange inside it virtual furnitures just to have an idea of how it will look like in the real world. It is obvious that it is much more difficult to use your mind to see how a piece of furniture might look like unless the image is displayed in front of your eyes. With Decolabs you can now picture it better.

Decolabs is an app that can be installed for free on your iPad. The app features an augmented reality tool which includes an e-catalog of furnitures from which you can pick items and position them inside a photo of your room that you have taken. The idea is to enable you to proper visualized how those furnitures fit into the space of your room.

The first step when you want to try the app is to take a picture of your room. Once the picture is taken you can now insert in all kinds of furnitures by just browsing through the Decolabs e-catalog. The products featured on the catalog are from top European brands and designers. You find brands like Fritz Hansen, Arne Jacobsen, Cassina, B&B Italia, Vitra and Molteni & C. Each product listed has a detailed description so you can know about the size, brand and color available.

The app is not fully ready yet and for that reason the prices of the item found on the catalog are not showing yet and the users don’t have the option to buy them directly from the app. Of course the company is doing its best to add that option later on and even increase the list of furnitures items available for decoration.

After selecting the different furnitures you are interested in, you have the option to move them around in a three-dimensional manner inside the picture of your room. The objects can rotate however you want them to. Once you are done putting the furnitures in place you can choose to share the newly decorated room with your friends on social networks. Aside that you can also choose to share it with Decolabs community designers who can also give you feedbacks and make recommendations.

According to Nicolas Verellen, the CEO of Decolabs, it takes only seconds for users to setup their interior design. With the help of the augmented reality tool featured on the app, one can make a better evaluation on how furnitures fit inside the giving room space and justify the big investment that interior decoration can turn out to be.

The new app has now been downloaded 6000 times since its released in 2012. Statistics are showing that most users are European women between the ages of 25 and 45. For now the company generates revenues from charging a monthly fee to the brands that want their furnitures to feature in the app. The app is currently only available on iOS but in the feature the company intends to release an Android version.
