Vevo Beats Twitter With 56 Million Unique Visitors

Sites include , . Published on September 8th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

Twitter and Vevo are like apples and oranges where social media identity is concerned but that when it comes to traffic, how you look doesn’t matter and ComScore certainly seems to thinks so.

According to the latest traffic data coming out ComScore (July 2012), Vevo is getting more uniques than Twitter. Based on the ComScore Media Matrix for July, Vevo saw just over 56,337 unique visitors, while Twitter saw just 40,256 uniques. The numbers were a shock to most who assumed that the up and coming Video sharing site wouldn’t be able to outdo the more established Twitter. But truth as they say is sometimes stranger than fiction.

It’s important to note that the rankings here are strictly social media rankings and don’t include Google sites which overall saw a massive 190 million uniques for the month of July. ComScore took care to exclude it Google from its graph since the search giant gets traffic to its funnel from sources other than social media.

The top social media site for July was of course Facebook which had 161 million unique visitors. At the other end of the scale were Tumblr and MySpace. Both had 26,929 and 26,812 uniques respectively.

Vevo will no doubt take the ranking from ComScore with glee. After all, Twitter considers itself a social media giant and to be outranked by a fledgling video sharing site has got to hurt.
