Bing Hits 25.6% Of US Search Market Share
It seems to be all coming together for Microsoft; Windows 7 is selling well, Windows 8 is about to hit the shelves and Bing is growing in its share of the US search market.
According to ComScore’s latest search data for the month of July, Bing’s overall share of US search grew by 4% between June and July to close out at 25.6% of market share. This is obviously good news for Bing and owner Microsoft because in pure terms growth is usually measured in percentage points, not jumps as big as the one seen for the month of July.
The search engine game isn’t a one horse race by any stretch though and other players saw growth over the same period. While Google only saw a modest 3% growth, the Ask Network recorded the biggest gain at 6%.
Much of this growth in search will no doubt come from the changing landscape of use among mobile users. The last two months has seen record sales of mobile devices and people are using their devices to do things hitherto reserved for laptops and desktops.
The coming months will be interesting for the key players battling for position among users. Overall Google has a stranglehold on the main search market (66.8%), but other players—especially Microsoft is catching up.
