Apple Has 42,200 Employees Worldwide
For true Apple fans, a trip to an Apple store is more than a chance to buy a shiny new toy; it’s an ‘outing’. Apple stores are every bit as iconic as the computers and phones that they sell and landing a job in one is harder than getting into Harvard.
Of the 10,000 applications that Apple receives from people seeking work in an Apple store, only 200 are hired. Nonetheless, the elite hires now total a whopping 42,200—which are the total number of Apple employees worldwide.
The first Apple store was opened back in 2000 and today there 363 of them located in most parts of the world—but especially where’s there’s lots of money in the hands of consumers. Each store generates over $49 million in profit each year and brings in over $18 billion in revenue. Combined they have helped to make Apple the most valuable publicly traded company in the world at $400 billion.
In the first quarter of 2012, over 85 million people visited Apple stores and things may get a lot more crowded when the iPhone 5 is released. Already you can feel the anticipation building and I can bet many an Apple fan will be camped outside their favorite Apple store the night before the must-have smartphone of 2012 drops. It will be chaos, but chaos that will make Apple lots of money.
