Yahoo Gets 700 Million Monthly Visitors
Marissa Mayer doesn’t have a lot to work with at Yahoo and given the state of the company, the only direction she can it is up—or so one would hope. The former Google employee was appointed by to replace Scott Thompson who as it turned out, wasn’t worth his name on paper.
Perhaps a good benchmark upon which to measure Mayer’s progress is the number of unique visitors the site gets each month. According to Yahoo Co-Founder David Filo, that figure is hovering around 700 million uniques a month. Filo believes in Mayer’s ability and expressed as much in a release: “Marissa is a well-known, visionary leader in user experience and product design and one of Silicon Valley’s most exciting strategists in technology development. I look forward to working with her to enhance Yahoo’s product offerings.”
Mayer herself looks up to the challenge. Shortly after her appointment she expressed her intent: “Yahoo!’s products will continue to enhance our partnerships with advertisers, technology and media companies, while inspiring and delighting our users. There is a lot to do and I can’t wait to get started.”
Whether Mayer will be able to steer the struggling Yahoo clear of danger remains to be seen. For all the accolades she’s received, working behind the scenes and running a company are two different things.
