Eminem Hits 60 Million Facebook Likes

Sites include . Published on August 16th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

Getting 10 million people to like you on Facebook isn’t easy and even big-name companies and brands struggle. But one category of people don’t struggle and they are celebrities. Love d by all, hated by a few; celebrities have no problem racking up likes and followers and proving this is Eminem.

The self-styled ‘slim shady’ is now officially the king of Facebook, having racked up 60 million likes to his fan page. That is the most likes for any living person and beats out popular pop icons Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

Presently the rap star gets around 26,000 likes each day; Rihanna who is second behind Eminem gets around 22,000 likes each day.

But there is another side to the story and that has to do with engagement. Whilst Eminem has the most likes, he doesn’t seem to command the highest level of engagement on Facebook. The ‘talking about this’ metric measures engagement of sorts and on Eminem’s page this number is 290,896. On Lady Gaga’s page this number is a staggering 1,209,588 with Rihanna commanding 1,016,304.

Clearly people who like Eminem don’t like talking; it’s either that or the way in which Gaga and Rihanna engage with their fans makes for more engagement. Whatever the case, the mum approach by Eminem doesn’t seem to have done much to dent his march to the top of the Facebook likes heap.

  1. Facebook and Eminem prove once again that the masses are asses. I never cared for Eminem… his “tough guy” image has been, is, and always will be a joke to me – and many others. My sister could kick his ass. Anthony West, you are, quite simply, wrong. These “celebrities” are not loved by all – but they are loved, adored, and worshiped by way too many.

I realized years ago that beauty – like so many other things – is in the eye of the beholder. I also realized that everyone makes judgements – even if they claim to not do so. Eminem’s (and other rappers’) rants and melodramatic discourse is something that is popular today – particularly with the “rebellious” youth that come along with each new generation seeking their own voice and style. Facebook is another fad that will fade or morph into something very different someday. Many already see Facebook to be (for the most part) a superficial social media tool that has some – but very limited – genuine merit in current society.

George Harrison was so right… it really is all up to what you value. Some truths never change.

  2. You’ve made valid points, for sure. But as a Beetles fan I am sure you can make room in your understanding for this generation. When the Beetles ruled supreme it was also said that “they are loved, adored, and worshiped by way too many”

Whether we like it or not popularity in the age of social media is a very real and measurable metric. In the 60s this was done via record sales; today its done with not just record sales but Facebook ‘Likes’ as well.

At any rate, thanks for commenting.
