Instagram Has 80 Million Users

It looks like the slight misstep of Facebook hasn’t done much to quiet the growth of Instagram. The company announced recently that it now has a whopping 80 million registered users who have collectively shared over 4 billion photos. The news was delivered via a blog post within which the company also expressed some gratitude for the tremendous support: “We’re humbled by the amazing photos from people’s lives we see every day on Instagram, and thank you for being part of this growing community.”

Instagram has seen massive growth since it launched an Android version of its app. With the Android powered devices being activated at breakneck speeds, it’s not at all surprising that many application developers are tying their fortunes and growth to it.

The Facebook purchase of Instagram hasn’t being consummated yet but there doesn’t seem to be any regulatory hurdles that will stand in the way of that happening. Once the sale is complete, Facebook will have a real asset which should help it increase engagement on its own platform.

Many Facebook users have cited a bit of disenchantment with the platform and so having a robust app that is all about the sharing of memories may just be what the doctor ordered.

Instagram’s success when put in perspective is absolutely stunning. For one thing, the app was launched only in late 2010. By any standard such growth in membership is excellent stuff.
