29% Of Businesses Are Owned By Women
The state of affairs regarding the presence of women in the business world has long been contentious but in recent decades things have simmered and women most can admit, are making huge strides.
This is what American Express Open found out when they explored the measure of that progress. It turns out from the study that women now own 29% of businesses, a huge leap when you consider the struggles women have had to endure in order to establish themselves.
But the study did find that although women are making strides, they are still struggling when it comes to scaling businesses. In particular, women struggle at the 5 to 9 employees and $250,000 to $499,999 revenue marks. The study found that women owned businesses in at these points saw steep decline between 1997 and 2002. Similar declines were seen again between 2007 and 2012.
Overall though, women have seen overall participation among their numbers. Ion the last 15 years there has been a 15% growth in women owned businesses. This has translated into trillions of revenues generated and thousands finding employment. The empowerment continues and with many women now taking up high profile CEO jobs at some of the world’s biggest companies, the movement as American Express calls it will gain even more momentum.
