Salesforce Acquires GoInstant For $70 Million
It’s been a while that we here at SiteTrail cover an acquisition by Salesforce, the undisputed king of buying in the tech space. Thankfully though, Salesforce is at it again and so we can tell you more about the $70 million that is being paid for GoInstant, the browser collaboration start-up that is barely out of diapers.
Salesforce of course is all about cloud and enterprise solutions so in many ways GoInstant is a perfect fit but the price tag would be considered by many to be inflated. One reason for thinking that would be the fact that it was only last fall at Techcrunch’s Disrupt event that GoInstant made its debut and announced that it had raised $1.7 million in funding. To pay $70 million for a company that is barely established and with such limited funding is questionable among some people in the tech space.
On the other hand, Salesforce is no ordinary buyer and it’s not uncommon for $400 million purchases from the company. Perhaps the purchase—albeit a relatively big one—wasn’t considered too much by Salesforce. At any rate, the company gets to add another piece to its growing offering for businesses looking for cloud-based communications and customer interaction. GoInstant allows people to surf the web with each other without installing any other plugins and this will be a huge boost to some of Salesforce’s enterprise offerings.
