There Are 1.3 Billion Windows Users
The past few weeks has been nothing but stunning numbers Microsoft and at the company’s Worldwide Partner Conference held recently, even more impressive numbers were revealed.
President of Microsoft Office, Kurt Delbene and CEO Steve Ballmer took the stage and announced in an almost matter-of-fact way that Microsoft Office is now installed on 1 billion machines around the globe. This number is supported by strong use of Windows of which both claim to stand at around at 1.3 billion. Of course there are more Windows users than licenses sold because a license can be spread across multiple machines depending on the type bought. To date over 680 million Windows 7 licenses have been sold and with Windows 8 looking to drop later this year, the numbers may easily sneak pass the 1 billion licenses mark by the end of 2013.
Perhaps it’s too early to declare that Microsoft is “back” and many would argue that the software giant was never gone anywhere. Whilst the latter sentiment may be true, there was a time when Windows was the bane of people—especially Vista. Since Ballmer took over at the helm things have really started to run a lot smoother at the company and even Bing (that ever draining hole in the coffers) is starting to produce some decent results.
The next 12 months looks like they are going to be record breaking for Microsoft.
