12 New Android Devices Are Activated Every Second
Google’s Android is grown big; so big that it is starting to resemble an oversized robot, stomping its way into our lives and stomping the competition. New data claims that 12 new Android devices are activated every second. This almost freakish growth means that Android has now been activated 400 million times and is currently seeing 1 million activations per day.
Apple on the other hand has sold cumulatively over 365 million devices, which if that figure is correct would put it behind Android. There is some debate over who is leading the mobile arms race because most times the data is that comes out about activations and downloads etc. is from a third party.
One thing is undisputed though: Android is gaining popularity because dollar for dollar, Android phones are cheaper than Apple phones and devices. This is especially true in emerging markets like Brazil and India where Google’s Android powers the majority of phones sold.
It is hard to see Apple stemming the tide of growth that Android is seeing, but in many ways it doesn’t have to. iOS devices are premium devices and as such don’t need to rely on voluminous activations to keep making the sort of money that Apple currently makes. When a single iOS device is sold, it takes almost 2 Android devices to match its price. At least that’s how some experts tend to look at the battle.
