Over 24% of The Top 10,000 Websites Use Facebook Widgets
Facebook is one of those online platforms that it pays to be plugged into and this isn’t lost on the top 10,000 websites in the world.
According to Pingdom, a whopping 24% of the top 10K has some sort of Facebook integration on their homepage via a widget. Throw in direct links to the social networking giant and the figure more than doubles to 49.3%. Facebook is of course very open to sites using widgets and the like to connect back to its platform and the Facebook API is one of the most heavily tapped in the world. Some developers have even built paid solutions on the back of the API, and Facebook’s own like button is used on 7.3% of the top 10K sites.
So what of the other social networking platforms? According to Pingdom, Twitter is featured on only 10% of the top 10K sites with around 4.3% using the official Twitter share button. Google+ rather surprisingly is more integrated on these sites than Twitter and has over 13% representation. Not surprisingly LinkedIn didn’t feature much and had a paltry 0.6% integration on the top 10K sites in the world.
All in all, Facebook is showing that it is the platform of choice for integration and traffic—the latter being the number one reason anyone would want to link to Facebook.
