The App Store Now Has 400 Million Accounts And 650,000 Apps
Apple continues to set the bar in terms of the apps market and released new data recently to corroborate this dominance. Speaking at WWDC 2012, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the app store now has more than 400 million accounts with over 650,000 registered apps available to customers.
This announcement of course comes on the heels of Google’s announcement that it is now seeing more than 900,000 Android activations daily. Where activations go, apps download follow and so many are predicting a ding dong battle for apps marketplace superiority between the two giants.
For now though Apple rules the roost and Cook also gave some insights about total apps download on the Apple mobile platform in general. According to Cook there are have been more than 30 billion apps downloads so far. Around 225,000 of the registered apps are built for the iPad but that is to be expected given the saturation of its flagship mobile product, the iPhone 4S.
Apple has a lot going for its place among developers so although Google is getting lots of attention, it still continues to be the preferred place for application development. Part of this is the generous pay-outs that are enjoyed on the iOS platform. So far over $5 billion has been paid out to developers and Apple continues to lead the way in this regard.
