Windows Phone Marketplace Hits 100,000 Apps
It looks like Windows Phone may be growing up and ‘catching on’ with smartphone users. This according to a ‘All About Windows Phone’, a review site which tracks the number of applications in the Windows Phone Marketplace. We’ll call them AAWP from this point.
Based on the latest figures released by AAWP, the Windows Phone Marketplace now has over 100,000 applications. This is more than a marginal jump because we reported on the marketplace a few months ago and at that time, there were only 70,000 applications present. That figure too, turned out to be a big milestone for Microsoft who made a release about it.
AAWP says that around 313 new apps are added to the marketplace on a daily basis and although this nothing like the thousands which are added to Google Play (Android’s marketplace) it marks an important growth-step for Microsoft. These new figure also mean that Blackberry, which has around 70,000 apps in its repository is now well and truly being left behind.
Windows 8 drops later this year and according to early reviews, one of the things it does is ‘talk’ very well to smartphones—even better to Windows Phone. A lot of people will upgrade or get new PC with Windows 8 so we can expect sales of Windows Phone to benefit slightly from this new release.
