Microsoft Has Sold Over 600 Million Copies Of Windows 7

Sites include . Published on June 23rd, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

Windows Vista was bloated but not entirely unappealing—visually at least. Then Microsoft dropped Windows 7 and all of sudden the company became a credible software maker again. The experts loved it and apparently so did millions of people from around the world.

The latest figures around Windows 7 installations puts it at a staggering 600 million—75 million of those new installations coming in the last 4 months. The announcement was made by Steven Guggenheimer, CVP of OEM at Microsoft.

Windows 7 users are in for a treat later this year too because Microsoft announced that Windows 8 will be going on sale. The 600 million existing users of Windows 7 will be able to upgrade for as little as $15. A glance around many of the PC retailers (Bestbuy, Compusa etc) shows that the upgrade deal is already embedded in new PC sales.

Users may still need to watch things before they upgrade though; Microsoft may have got things right with Windows 7, but the early iteration of the operating system may leave a few bugs unchecked. Whatever the case, things look certain to heat up among the two big boys at the heap and Apple too has unveiled the latest update of its operating system called Mountain Lion.

Are you a Windows users and if so, will you be upgrading to Windows 8? Share your thoughts with us below.
