Buddy.com Raises $1 Million In Funding

Sites include . Published on June 14th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

The Applications development industry is growing so fast that companies are now tapping into each development juncture in a bid to satisfy some need and make some cash in the process. This is certainly the modus operandi of Buddy.com, a platform that lets App developers focus on the front end of their applications without spending too much time creating cloud-based infrastructure for connectivity and deployment.

Dubbed ‘backend-as-a-service’, the new model seems to have found favor with investors because Buddy.com is announcing the receipt of $1 million in seed funding. The capital was pumped in by Transmedia Capital and Crestlight Venture Productions and is expected to roll out key functionalities to developers across multiple platforms.

Buddy has a series of APIs that are tapped by developers on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows 8, Facebook, SmartTV and HTML5. All told the company now has over 6,000 developers and 5,000 Apps under management. These numbers are expected to grow with the injection of capital and Buddy.com is looking to also grow its real-time Apps performance dashboard—a feature which is spoken highly of by most developers on the platform.

It looks like investors are hoping to cash in on first movers advantage because at present there are few direct competitors for Buddy.com. Naturally this will change as the BaaS models gains traction among developers and native platform owners.
