Pandora Hits 150 Million Registered Users
Pandora is proving that it can hold its own against the upstarts in the online radio space. The company has just announced that there are now more than 150 million registered users on the platform and growth has been outstanding given the level of competition the platform faces.
Pandora as you may already know is facing stiff competition from the likes of Spotify. Despite the onslaught though, Pandora is reporting massive engagement among its 150 million strong subscriber base. Active listenership is up 50% in the first part of 2012 and the company is reporting that around 52 million subscribers are active on the platform.
The month of April was a particularly strong one for Pandora and users streamed a total of 1.06 billion hours of music. This staggering figure was a massive 87% jump on the streaming hours recorded in the same month of 2011. Clearly things are looking up for the company, even if those active members have yet to translate into profits.
Despite strong growth in users and engagement, the company is still in the red having reported a $16 million loss for fiscal year 2012. The hope is that given the growth in momentum, things will level off and the strength in numbers will translate into profits.
