Mixpanel Raises $10.3 Million In Funding

Sites include . Published on May 27th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

A few weeks ago we covered the growth of Google Analytics (GA)and its use among online businesses. We also touched on the fact that although is a free offering, there are many paid offerings that do comparable things.

One such offering is Mixpanel, alumni of the Y-Combinator program who is announcing fresh funding of $10.3 million. Of course Mixpanel is not new to VC funding, having been previously topped up to the tune of $1.75 million by Sequoia Capital, Square COO Keith Rabois, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin, and Bebo co-founder Michael Birch. What is significant now is the fact that it is getting a bigger chunk of funding and has attracted VC heavyweight, Andreessen Horowitz.

The funding round strangely enough is being called a Series A, and from the looks of things Andreessen Horowitz has a good feeling about Mixpanel and what it can do. So good is that feeling that the VC giant managed to bring in Marc Beneoff, CEO of Salesforce into the action. And to prove its bona fide believe in the analytics start-up, Andreessen Horowitz’s Peter Levine is now sitting on the board.

Marvellous stuff by any stretch and Mixpanel already looks set to bring home the bacon. The analytics company already provides its tracking and metric services to Viddy and Path. The company is also reporting a whopping 4 billion actions tracked and this number is expected to grow now that money has been injected to expand the company’s capabilities.
