YouTube Users Upload 1 Hour Of Video Every Second
YouTube turned 7 recently and it’s hard to believe just what has transpired in those years—from the uploading of the first video to the blockbuster acquisition by Google, YouTube has become a fixture as much as any other online social phenomenon in the last 10 years.
Today the amount video uploaded on YouTube is truly staggering. For instance, 60 hours of video are uploaded every minute—that’s one hour of video every second. The consumption of this vast amount of content is also staggering and according to some estimates over 4 billion videos are viewed every day. YouTube is so powerful in attracting content makers that it gets more videos uploaded to it than all three major US news networks combined.
All this traffic and content hasn’t escaped Google and the search giant has started in recent years to monetize the platform. You can even watch a 15 second commercial in the middle of a video, which leads to the notion that YouTube is becoming more like television. Google insists that YouTube will continue in its culture of original, user generated content; even though the platform is now embracing partnerships with Hollywood-styled budgets.
For now people will continue to upload millions and videos and YouTube will continue to generate millions in revenue for Google. Happy 7th YouTube.
