Groupon Acquires Ditto.me
Groupon doesn’t make the news that often these days but the daily deals giant is back with news that it has acquired social recommendation app, Ditto.me.
Ditto is essentially a mobile app that lets people make recommendations on the best places to shop and eat etc. Groupon of course is all about daily deals of course and so acquiring a company that tracks these types of activities is a sound investment. Ditto announced the deal via its blog and by the tone of the piece, the company is happy about being acquired.
According to the blog post, “We can’t reveal what we’ll be working on at Groupon but we are excited to give it 100% – to enable this, we’ll be winding down Ditto. On April 30th we’ll switch off the service and remove the app from Apple’s and Nokia’s stores. We think you’ll love what we and Groupon dream up next.”
Users might be a tad annoyed that the service will be shut down as a result of the acquisition but I am sure it won’t be too long before the service is up and running again—bigger and better. Even if Groupon doesn’t re-launch Ditto in its present form, the developers which come with the deal is a wonderful addition to Groupon’s talent pool.
