65% Of Adult Internet Users Are At Least On One Social Network

Social networking and the profits to be had from the activity is very much a part of the tech discourse these days and for good reason. CPC and CPM rates are up and platforms like Facebook and Twitter seem to be basking in the profits.

Now come new reports that adults (the people with all the money) are very much engaged with social media. The study conducted my Monetate.com found that over 65% of adult internet users have at least one social media account. That is a very large spending pool and one that is a potential goldmine for advertisers and sellers of ad inventory for sure.

But it gets even better. The adults on these social networks view product interaction and marketing in quite a different way. From the days of hateful commercials ruining television viewing, social networkers actually don’t mind interacting with brands. A whopping 80% of people surveyed for the study admitted a preference for interacting with brands on Facebook.  The ownership aspect of the interaction coupled with the ease at which discounts and promotions can be accessed has made social media the perfect platform for marketers.

Facebook’s ad platform is now mature; Twitter’s is heading towards maturity and Google+ hasn’t even started yet. The future for online marketing looks really bright indeed.
