Hulu Plus Now Has 2 Million Paying Users
Hulu took itself off the ‘for sale’ block several months ago and since then nothing but good things have happened for the streaming content provider.
Reports are that Hulu has seen a 25% jump in subscribers in recent months and the company is set to make an official announcement to that effect in the coming days. Hulu was being courted heavily by Yahoo and at one stage was even approached by Google and Apple. None of these suitors were able to entice Hulu’s directors and in the end the decision was made to press on with business as usual.
Hulu has also grown its paid subscriber base and its offering, Hulu Plus, now has an estimated 2 million subscribers. Hulu Plus offers many mobile and desktop streaming solutions including content for the Nintendo Wii. It’s $8 a month service is its most popular and there are plans to grow this subscriber base even more. Hulu has also improved the viewing size of its free ad-supported side of the platform by 55%. This has helped push user numbers up and it’s this growth that Hulu is now looking to use as it attempts to woo subscribers.
The growth of Hulu Plus especially will be watched closely by the tech sector, not least because it will show if the decision not to sell was a wise one.
