JustinTV.com Domain Name Sold For $32,500

Sites include , . Published on April 28th, 2012. Written by Daniel Renfro.

The domain names JustinTv.com just recently sold on Ebay for the whopping 5 figure amount of #32,500! The seller of the domain name certainly did not have much trouble selling this domain name. The owner said in his ebay listing that his name was Justin and that he registered the domain name in 1999. He also said that the domain name receives over 60,000 visitors each month. However, things are not always what they seem.

There is another popular domain name out there called Justin.TV and the reason this “Justintv.com” is receiving so many visitors is due to confusion and mistakes in searching and finding the wrong web site. This domain name was bought by a man in Chile back in February. It is coming back up again because due to the similarities in the 2 domain names, this $32,5000 domain name is receiving a URDP filing. Which basically means there is a complaint against the domain. It will be interesting to see what will become of this URDP filing and what happens to the domain name Justintv.com that causes so much confusion.

This can be a big issue for many other domain name buyers, sellers, and owners as well. If a domain name is similar to a popular one, and causes people a lot of confusion, or the similar domain name is spam or something along those lines, people get upset and the owner can be penalized for it.

The best thing to do it be careful and do your home work before buying a domain name that is pretty general or common. This will save the buyer and even seller some trouble in the future. The last thing you want is to make a good sale and then have to suffer for it later down the road and lose the success you made in the 1st place.

  1. I think that is rubbish if he loses his domain name. I’m not a beiber fan or however you spell it (clearly lol) but the domain was bought back in 1999 then it will have nothing to do with justin.tv and therefor, should not have a penitly for it. If ANYTHING justintv.com should put a URDP filing agents justintv for trying to copy them. :P now that would be a turn around!
