61% Of America Now Has WiFi
WiFi networks have become ubiquitous in business and other organizational-type setups but that ubiquity has now started to spread to homes. A new look at the adoption of WiFi in American homes sought to put things into perspective.
The study was conducted by Strategy Analytics, and puts the US pretty much in the pack of the 17 countries that were assessed. The US was found to have 61% WiFi penetration in homes, and was immediately behind Italy who has 61.8% penetration. The US barely beat out Spain and Australia who had 57.1% and 53.8% penetration respectively.
Top of the heap was of course South Korea, the country which seems to ooze gadgets and the love of them. It had a massive 80.3% WiFi adoption in the home and was followed by the UK with 73.3%.
Strategy Analytics was quick to point out too that the current state of things will definitely change in the coming years. A big reason for that position is China, who at 21.8% WiFi penetration is only third from bottom. The prediction is that in the coming 5 of years, more than 110 million households will install WiFi networks, making China the biggest growth area for WiFi adoption.
Overall, the prediction is that by 2016 there will be a 42% worldwide adoption of WiFi in the home and about 800 million households will have networks installed.
