Pandora Surpasses 51 Million Active Users
Online radio platform Pandora is now starting to open up a bit in a bid to attract advertisers. This is of course not surprising since competitors like Spotify do this all the time, but still, this degree of openness on Pandora’s part is welcomed.
The company recently gave insights as to number of users and the number of listening hours that Pandora is racking up each month. The month of March saw over 1 billion listening hours clocked in by Pandora growing base of 51 million active users. The numbers put in perspective are staggering for several reasons: the first is that the 1 billion hours logged was for the month of February 2012. Pandora had predicted back in 2009 that it would have 1 billion listening hours at some point for the entire year. It also highlights a great degree of growth because in February of 2011, the company recorded just over 500 million listening ours.
Of course the biggest reason Pandora is racking up such huge listening numbers is because of the growth of its user base. Back February 2011 Pandora had just 32 million active users. Fast forward a year later and it has added 19 million active users—a growth which suggests that Pandora is far from peaking.
All these numbers are starting to ‘set of light bulbs’ with advertisers who Pandora confirms have booked over 400 local advertising campaigns with the company. So all in all, Pandora is doing just fine.
