There Are 54.8 Million Tablet Users In U.S.

Tablet sales are booming and so too are the retail sales that the millions of tablet owners are generating. A recent survey by Milo.com expounded on the numbers and the phenomenon behind the surge in tablet sales and subsequent use.

According to the study there are over 54.8 million tablet users in the US alone. This number is a massive jump on the 33.7 million tablet users recorded at the end of 2011. Sales of tablets are predicted to grow too so that by the end of 2013 there should be approximately 75.6 million tablet owners—that figure stretches to 89.5 million by 2014.

But the core of Milo’s look at the tablet dealt with its impact on retail sales. Tablet owners are now using their handheld computers to shop like never before. Many use their tablets at home and this is an important fact because people are 3 times more likely to make a purchase online if they are in a comfortable and secure environment—nothing screams comfort and security like your own home of course.

Retailers will be gleeful over the study which found that 79% of 18 – 34 year olds use their tablets to shop over desktops and mobile phones. This age band of course is one of the most coveted and retailers who tailor their online offerings for tablets will get the most sales.
