Social.org Domain Name Sold For $228,600

Domain names can be pretty expensive, costing some companies 6 figure amounts, while others are more affordable and cost only a couple hundred dollars. However despite the cost, the domain name would eventually pay for itself if the company has a successful and growing business. It is obvious from the above sale that this certainly is true about how pricey domain names can be!
Recently the domain name social.org sold through Name Jet for a whopping 6 figure dollar amount of $228,600! This sale took place in a public auction on March 23, 2012. Due to the large amount of bids coming in during the last few minutes of the auction, it was actually extended 3 hours past the scheduled ending time for the auction.
The winner of Social.org was “qgpfexzorg”. There were 5 active bidders past the $50,000 and there were 3 active bidders above the $200,000. This says a lot about what a good domain name this must be and how multiple sources had plans for what this domain name could be used for. Apparently last year a similar domain name, social.com was sold for over 2 million and a half dollars! I’m surprised social.org did not go above the sale price that it sold for and I think had those 3 active bidders past $200,000 kept going or had there been more, it easily could have sold closer to what social.com sold for.
It will be interesting to see what this domain name is used for; perhaps for another social networking or media site, since of course we need another one of those! Big congrats to the seller and Name Jet since this was a big sale and no doubt a good one for all involved.

It can be frustrating when good domain names are being used for non working websites. It’s important to be creative when coming up with a domain name unless you are willing to pay a lot of money to purchase one already taken.
