Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them.
Yahoo Sues Facebook Over 10 Patents
Ever since Yahoo got a new CEO, there have been noticeable changes at the company. A few longstanding board members jumped ship and the company now seems to have a bit of grit about it.
That grit is being demonstrated in a lawsuit that was filed against Facebook recently. It comes as part of a promise made by Yahoo to bring a claim against Facebook for violation of 10 Yahoo patents. According to the suit, “Facebook was not launched until 2004, 10 years after Yahoo was founded. Facebook has since grown to be one of the most widely trafficked sites on the Internet. That growth, however, has been based in a large part on Facebook’s use of Yahoo’s patented technology.”
Yahoo is further alleging that “Facebook’s entire social network model, which allows users to create profiles for and connect with, among other things, persons and businesses, is based on Yahoo’s patented social networking technology.”
Facebook of course will be hoping that not much comes of the lawsuit, even though the pair had been in dialogue about the issues just a few weeks ago. Yahoo will be hoping that it wins the suit and get some validation that it is indeed one of the web’s biggest pioneers. But what will happen, only time will reveal. Facebook’s IPO is set for May and at the very least; Zuckerberg and co will be hoping that no adverse judgment (if any) is passed before then.
