YouTube Releases 19,000 Indian TV Shows To Watch Online

YouTube is fast transitioning from a pure user-generated content platform to one where production pieces are near-Hollywood in quality. The world’s largest video sharing platform has a section called “YouTube Shows” and it has recently got an infusion of content.

YouTube announced via a blog post that the YouTube Shows section has been updated with 19,000 Indian TV show episodes. These shows run across a wide number of genres and are constituted by around 300 programs spanning 6 different languages.

Of course, these shows are just the start of what Google hopes will become its planned attack on other streaming video platforms such as Hulu. In fact, one observer made the point that the new YouTube Shows section looks a lot like Hulu—especially in layout.

Whatever the intent behind YouTube’s actions, the over 1.2 billion people that live in India will be more than happy that they can access some of their favorite shows on YouTube. Indian Television and Cinema has evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry and Bollywood films now command the attention of not just Indians, but cinema and television lovers from around the world.

The race to capture the attention of millions of people who now prefer to watch TV on their PCs and mobile devices is well and truly on.
