Citrix Acquired Cloud.com For $200 Million

Sites include , . Published on March 29th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

So Citrix acquired Cloud.com for $200 million but was that the biggest bit of detail coming out of that transaction? Not all; instead, we’ve all got to watch the owners of Domaingang.com enjoy their 15 minutes of fame as both Citrix and Cloud.com gave them a mention for a faux news story that was covered on the blog.

The backstory goes something like this: a few months ago Domaingang reported that the Rolling Stones under the leadership of frontman Mick Jagger were suing Cloud.com for a staggering $2.5 billion. The story got picked up (we covered it here too) and pretty soon it was clear to see that the guys over at Domaingang were having a right whole laugh at everyone’s expense. Or perhaps just a crude attempt to get some traction.

Whatever it was it worked because Peder Ulander, Chief Marketing Officer for Cloud.com tweeted that the story was the “best story on the news today”. The gang got another boost when the Citrix PR team tweeted later, “Best faux news all day”.

Of course underlying all this is the fact that Citrix splashed out $200 million for Cloud.com, perhaps one of the biggest acquisitions of in the tech space. Citrix is happy, Cloud.com is even happier and the guys at Domaingang? Well, let’s just say they are delighted they got a mention on Twitter.
