15 Million .DE Domain Names Exist In The World Now
Domainers may not talk too much about the power of the .DE domain name extension but in terms of raw numbers, it is perhaps the most popular country code TLD (ccTLD) there is out there.
DENIC.de is responsible for managing the domain and it is reporting that the extension now has over 14 million (14,881,746 to be exact) and the rate of growth is projecting that number well above 15 million in the coming months. It was only November of 2010 that Denic registered its 14 millionth .DE domain name; seven months later over 500,000 more domains were registered. This makes the .DE extension one of the fastest growing across all domain extension platforms.
The almost 15 million domain names registered under the extension means that one in six German now has a domain registered; though I am not sure the vast numbers of domains are attributable strictly to Germans. In recent years, the domaining gold rush has fueled a gold rush outside of traditional country boundaries and nowadays it’s easy for someone living in Canada to register a domain with Denic.
The next 118,254 domains could come from anywhere, but come they will. Things have slowed in the last few months where big-name domain sales are concerned, but the .De is still ripe for the picking.
