eBay Buyer Finds $26,000 In Safe
In these recession laden times, one needs every bit of luck one can get, and eBay buyer, A Bartlett seems to have lady luck on his side.
Bartlett won an auction on the popular auction and retail website only to find out that inside the Safe he won for a measly $122.93, sat a delightful $26,000—in pure unadulterated cash! The auction was run by a California man called James Labrecque, who unwittingly let the Safe for dirt cheap money only to find out it had a stash of cash inside.
Bartlett had to get the safe open at a welder, but the cost of cracking it is obviously nothing compared to the actual benefit of getting it opened. But shortly after finding the money, Bartlett let slip and told Labrecque who then demanded half. Naturally the drama was enough to catch the attention of local news reporters who quizzed Labrecque about his misfortune. He told WMC-TV that “I feel like the stupidest idiot in the world. I told my friend, I won the stupidest idiot in the world award the other day, you know. I gave away a safe with $26,000 in it.”
It’s not clear if Bartlett gave him any of the cash, or what eBay’s policy is on this sort of stuff. But whatever happens, Bartlett will be $13,000 better off at least.
