Average User Spends 6.5 Hours On Facebook Every Month

Social networking is fast becoming the number activity among computer users in the US, and a recent study by online information gatherer Statista attempts to hard figures to the data.

Unsurprisingly, Facebook is the number one social network in the US, and most users can’t get enough of it. According to the study, the average user spend just over 6.5 hours per month on the site—a figure which dwarf’s the activity on Google+ by about 600 times  Facebook gets around 167 million (million with a capital M) unique visitors each and every month. Google+ by comparison gets around 18 million unique users; though it is important to note that it isn’t anywhere near as established as Facebook.

Other top social networks in terms of use were Twitter (who was second behind Facebook) and LinkedIn which snatched a rather surprising third place. Pinterest, a late comer to the social networking scene, rounds out the top 7.

When you look at the numbers Facebook is putting up, it sort of gives fresh perspective to the battle that Google is waging with its social network offering, Google+. It’s not hard to imagine that by the end of 2012 Facebook will be 1 billion active users strong. When that happens, Google+ may not be anywhere near half a billion.
