Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them.
85% Of U.S. Adults Are Social Media Users
Social Media is becoming as American as Apple Pie and Baseball. A recent study which looked at the projected growth in the next 5 years for social commerce, highlight a few interesting facts about social media as it relates to US users.
According to the study around 85% of all US adults are social media users. Most of these are active spenders and they are expected to help push social commerce to over $30 billion in the coming years. But there is a catch.
It appears that older adults are not so convinced about social media and its ability to handle secure transactions. Many have expressed concerns about entering their credit card details on social media platforms, especially Facebook. Only the younger male social media users with incomes over $35,000 seemed confident and willing to trust their financial security to social media platforms.
Much of the engagement on social media platforms is trending towards mobile, and surprisingly, a large percentage of ‘Boomer’ males expressed confidence in using their mobile devices to access sites like Facebook and Twitter. This is a big surprise not least because the ‘Boomer’ generation are meant to be the least savvy among tech users. Still, the statistics for engagement are encouraging, and as long as the US economy continues to get better, social media platforms will be ok.
