Urbanspoon Hits 28 Million Visits Per Month

Sites include . Published on February 25th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

If you’ve ever used a restaurant App on your mobile phone then chances are you’ve used Urbanspoon. The company released its growth statistics recently, boasting monthly site visits of 28 million users per month. This is extraordinary because the overall growth in visitors is a staggering 80%–even out-pacing overall mobile growth of the web.

The 28 million monthly uniques is evenly spread between mobile and regular web visits, a stat which suggests that Urbanspoon is getting popular across all platforms. Urbanspoon has seen massive growth in its mobile presence with a staggering 255 million visits recorded in 2011. This figure is an almost doubling of the 141 million visits that were recorded in 2010. Overall on the mobile side of things, Urbanspoon has seen a staggering 112% year-on-year growth and the trajectory for 2012 and beyond is tipped towards even greater growth.

Innovation seems to be favouring Urbanspoon quite a lot, and the company attributes much of its growth to new features that have been added in the last year or so. Its launch of a check-in and diary feature called Dineline was instrumental in helping Urbanspoon get the critical mass needed for growth. Its integration of Zagat reviews back in August 2011, was a also a catalyst for growth and rising popularity.

No doubt the company will continue to grow in the coming months and with VCs so eager to invest these days in mobile start-ups, I am sure it can expect some new money to start flowing soon.
