Lady Gaga Launches Her Own Social Network Called LittleMonsters.com

Sites include . Published on February 20th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

Lady Gaga has such huge followings on Facebook and Twitter, that many speculated she might one day launch her own social network. Well, that day is here. A fledgling start-up called Backplane has partnered with Gaga to launch LittleMonsters.com, a space where Gaga fans can share related content and generally shoot the breeze over the rather strange pop star. The site which is currently in closed beta-launch is attracting genuine ‘Little Monsters’ and people interested in joining have to request an invite.

Observers are keen to point out though that Gaga’s social network looks much like the social sharing site, Pinterest. Both are of course heavy on visuals with very little scope for extensive written content. I suppose though that a site used mostly by ‘Monsters’ wouldn’t need much scope for writing, and at any rate, the web is now hot on pictures and video so it makes sense to stick with what’s working.

Backplane CEO and co-founder Matt Michelsen took the opportunity to shed light on the media-rich functionality of its first project. Said Michelsen, “Backplane is about bringing together communities and Gaga’s community just so happens to be the community we’re using to learn about proper functionality, we think we can really change the world.”

So far the site has a base of just over 10,000 people but that number is expected to explode once it is opened to the public.
