Amazon.com May Launch Junglee.com In India
Amazon is really keen on localizing its business presence it seems, because speculation is rife that the retailing giant is set to launch a Indian version of its website. According to reports, Amazon is looking to call this new site Junglee.com, in an effort to give the people of India a sense of ownership of the retail site.
In Hindi, Junglee literally translates to “wild” or a person having no human qualities. This choice I suppose is in keeping with the Jungle connotations that the retail giant currently has with its own name (Amazon Rainforest/Jungle).
The push to get a localized version of the site is apparently tied to the Indian governments ban on retail giants establishing multi-brand websites. Something which Amazon may be able to do after the foreign direct investment Bills are shored up in India.
Amazon of course, already has a few distribution hubs in India and is overall, very heavily invested in the country’s IT sector. The establishment of a localized site however, will take Amazon up in the ranks of other big names that already have one presence or another in India. The establishment of a website will also help boost the ecommerce and payment systems, something which many Indians are still not able to access properly. Overall, this is a good thing.
