Rumgr Raises $500,000 In Funding From Zappos

The garage sale experience is just one App away, thanks to Rumgr. The App is the pillar of a start-up which has just received $500,000 in funding from Zappos. The App was co-created by Dylan Bathurst.

According to Bathurst, the idea for the App came out of his own frustrating experience of trying to sell furniture before a move. The App works on a very simple premise: users open the App and peruse a list of items that are being sold in their locale; if something interesting is found, a little chat window pops out facilitating grater dialogue, and possibly an eventual sale. So far the App is on iPhone only but Bathurst and his team are expecting to use some of the funding to expand its reach on other mobile platforms.

When asked if the service (albeit a mobile one) isn’t a Craigslist-type service, Bathurst was quick to highlight the fact that the App is very different. Bathurst stressed, “We’re not trying to replicate Craigslist on the phone.”

He may be right, because for now all one has to do to get going on Rumgr is upload a photo. No complicated description or fancy editing is needed. This perhaps will be the biggest appeal to the App, and if it can build a strong local network of buyers and sellers, it should be easy for Bathurst to realize his dream of making the garage sale easy to execute.
