NBB.com Domain Name Sold For $95,000
One quick glance at the domain NBB.com will in an instant draw your attention to the fact its just one letter removed from NBA.com. Now if NBA.com is worth a lot, you can bet a pretty penny that NBB will be worth something too.
That worth was proven last August when the domain sold on Sedo for a commanding $95,000. At the time of sale, very detail was available about the buyer and what purpose the domain had been acquired for. It turns out it as bought by a German company who specializes in selling notebook computers. The company operates under a domain called Notebooksbilliger.de, so it is now clear why they had a keen interest in acquiring NBB.com. So keen is there interest and desire to protect the domain that the company even filed a US trademark on the term NBB. The trademark will give Notebooksbilliger.de protection under the class: “Data processing equipment and computers, in particular desktop computers and laptop computers.”
Since the acquisition and the subsequent revelations of the purpose for the purchase, many in the domain industry are wondering if the German company got the domain too cheaply. This isn’t too easy to answer because much of the domain buying business is subjective. I suppose now that we know that it was bought by a going concern that has the wherewithal to file a trademark, it is easy to say the domain should have gone for more.
What do you think? Should NBB.com have gone for more? Let us know below
