75% Of Americans Use Their Phones In The Bathroom
It’s amazing how generations can have shifts in their ways of going about life. 50 years ago, the bathroom was pretty much out of bounds for things like a phone, today a mobile phone is pretty much standard for any location in the house—even the loo. And helping to cement this in the annals (pardon the pun) of American culture are the so-called generation Ys.
According to a study conducted by 11mark on the use of mobile phones among 1000 participants, a staggering 75% admitted that they use their mobile phones whilst taking a dump. So, to be clear, it’s not the use of the mobile phone in the bathroom that is staggering, it’s the use of it whilst the good old sphincter muscle is doing its work. No surprise then that websites like Twitter were created to capture the moments when people turn to flush and the phone falls—ouch, there goes the warranty on the battery.
And some phones are more likely to be taken to the loo also; Droids were found to be the most popular ‘toilet-taken’ phone at 87%, whilst only 84% of iPhone users felt the need to mix their talking with using the loo. Unsurprisingly, Blackberry users were third in the standing at 77%, further proving that when it comes to the popularity of smartphones, RIM is losing the battle—even in the toilet.
