Over 50% Of Adults Shopped On Their Phone Over The Holidays
Not too long ago, you’d be hard-pressed to find a mobile phone that did anything in color, but today, mobile phones are doing pretty much anything that computers do—heck, most smartphones these days are computers.
Little wonder then, that most adults of are now using their mobile phones to shop online. A recent study by the Pew Research Center concluded that more than 50% of US adults used their mobile phones to carry out their holiday shopping last year. A big reason for this growth of course, are the multitude of apps that allow for seamless interaction between ones banking and credit card systems with the online point of sales systems of most major brands.
People are also using their mobile phones to get purchase advice and a whopping 38% of people surveyed highlighted their use of a friend online to help them with buying specific items. The vast data capacity of mobile phones these days means that most people are comfortable doing most of their shopping, researching, advice seeking and pretty much anything that doesn’t require sitting in front of a computer. Is this a good thing? For mobile phone manufacturers I suppose it’s great news, but for those concerned about the loss of social interaction among people, this new over-reliance on the mobile phone I am sure is a tad worrying.
