Pinterest Reaches 17 Million Visits Per Month

Sites include . Published on February 8th, 2012. Written by Anthony West.

Pinterest might not be household name, but with the growing number of hits the site receives, it is only a matter of time before this happens.

Both Hitwise and ComScore have noted the spike in traffic, and a recent tweet by Hitwise suggests that the growth is something which is expected to continue. According to Hitwise, Pinterest saw a rise in its monthly uniques from 10 million to a whopping 17 million. Now a 7 million gain in the realm of social and viral websites is perhaps not something too significant, but when you consider that the site recorded this growth in just 30 days, it brings a different perspective—certainly.

If you aren’t too clued up on Pinterest, it’s a social website of sorts that lets people aggregate and display their likes as they navigate the web. The site currently brings in $3,656 a day in ad revenue and is worth around 11 million. But perhaps what is very interesting about Pinterest is its effectiveness at sending traffic to other sites on the web. Just last week we wrote about one particular blogger who gets around 6,000 unique visitors a month from Pinterest. According to the blogger, traffic from Pinterest accounts for a large chunk of the advertising efficiency on her website—something which she says, has proved very profitable for her.

Right now Pinterest is still breaking out of its niche-shell, but I dare say that by the end of 2012, it will be one of the top websites in the world.
